Microsoft’s first big update for its newest operating system, Windows 10, finally has a launch date. Come August 2, Windows 10 will be receiving the Anniversary Update.
With the Anniversary Update, Microsoft will be introducing a couple of new features to Windows 10. Chief among those features includes the introduction of Windows Ink, Microsoft Edge browser exxtensions as well as the Xbox App for Windows 10.
New features aren’t the only thing that will be coming to the Anniversary Update. Microsoft has also been hard at work improving Windows 10’s security features. In the upcoming update, Microsoft will be enabling Windows Hello support for both Windows apps and Microsoft Edge.
Improvements to Windows Defender are also available as the free anti-malware service from Microsoft will now sport an option to automatically schedule periodic quick scans of your PC, while also providing you with notifications and summaries when scans are complete. For enterprise customers, the Anniversary Update will bring with it Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (WDATP), a feature that detects, investigates and responds to advanced malicious attacks on networks by providing a more comprehensive threat intelligence and attack detection.
Cortana will also be getting an update as the Anniversary Update will be giving Cortana the ability to save and recall key information as well as give you notifications across all Cortana-enabled devices. Cortana will also be available above you lock screen, allowing you to use her without needing to unlock your computer.
If you’re already on Windows 10, you need only wait another month before the Anniversary arrives. If you’re still on older versions of Windows, here’s your reminder that the free Windows 10 upgrade offer lasts until the 29th of July.
