Winamp teases come back as a purposeful media player

For almost everyone who use to listen to music on their computers a decade ago, Winamp was a legendary music player that is able to play almost every file you throw at it, remember those cool community skins as well? Be prepared and feel the nostalgia as the music player is about to come back in a big way.

Why a dedicated music player you may ask? It is simply because Winamp isn’t just going to be a mere MP3 player, it is going to be a more complete music player that will support a variety of playback medium, which Alexandre Saboundjian, CEO of Radionomy said that you will be able to use it to play music on the cloud, streaming radio stations, and more.

While it does sound like the company’s goal is to make Winamp a universal player for popular streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Music, Sabounjian has declined to comment on which platforms it will be working with, however we do assume that the company is sure to have challenges such as licensing issues while getting the approval for that.

Winamp 6 will be the version that we all should be looking forward, and the company is teasing for a 2019 release.
