WhatsApp will soon roll out voice and video call features to its web and desktop app users; beta users can already try out the new features.

Voice and video calling will be available on WhatsApp Web and desktop app

WABetaInfo found that both call features are being tested in the beta version of the app so you can directly call your friends and family using your desktop app or WhatsApp Web. The call icons will appear right next to the search button at the top and making calls will lead to a new pop-up window. It was also mentioned that group video and voice calls will be supported as well.

However, 9to5Mac tested the feature and says that those on Windows 10 doesn’t have the option to make calls when in group chats. It is also reported that WhatsApp Desktop users have a higher chance to try out the feature as compared to Web users.

It’s not new, but it’s important

While video and voice calling aren’t something new, it is a big deal for WhatsApp user since the messaging app is the largest one right now. Being able to conduct voice/video calls through desktop will be a convenience since users won’t have to switch to other platforms to do so.
