Whatsapp has announced on its official blog that as of yesterday, there are one billion users on Whatsapp.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg foresaw the number when his company acquired Whatsapp in 2013. Many criticised and questioned the man’s move to acquire the messaging app more than two years back, but it seems that the billionaire has reaped what he sowed through the purchase.

Not long ago in September 2015, Whatsapp announced their surpassing of 900 million users, which will mean at least an increase of 100 million users from then till now. With Facebook already having surpassed the one billion mark, Zuckerberg now owns two apps consisting of at least two billion users, that is two out of seven people in terms of world population.

Whatsapp’s next step is still pretty much a mystery. The app has dropped its $0.99 annual fee recently, which means that it will be sourcing for other ways to gain revenue in order to house more Whatsapp chatters.
