WhatsApp to introduce Snapchat Stories-like improvements to its status feature

Facebook has been implementing many features that have been…”inspired” by other social network services as of late. Today, yet another dash of inspiration will be making its way to WhatsApp as the Facebook-owned chat app is getting some major improvements to its status feature.

Scheduled for rollout on the 24th of February, which is incidentally WhatsApp’s 8th birthday, the app’s status feature will be getting a new status feature that is obviously inspired by Snapchat’s Stories feature. With the new WhatsApp status, users will gain access to a new tab that would allow them to share decorated photos, videos and GIFs. These statuses would be up for 24 hours before being removed. Unlike Snapchat Stories however, WhatsApp status will also be end-to-end encrypted.

This feature will be made available across all versions of WhatsApp, ranging from iOS, Android and even Windows Phone. Again, the update is scheduled to go live on the 24th of February, so you don’t have to refresh your device’s respective app store just yet.
