WhatsApp to end support for older iPhones, Android and Windows phones by February 2020

As we close out the decade, WhatsApp will be ending support for a list of older smartphones by February 2020.

As software and hardware become better, older tech will have to be left out – and these phones include all Windows Phone, which will see a halt to WhatsApp support by the end of the year, while any phones running on Android versions older than 2.3.7 will have a cutoff date of February 1. Also following suit are iPhones with iOS 7 and older.

To be safe, you will need to run at least iOS 9 on your Apple devices, or Android 3.0 otherwise. If you have a device that’s about ten years old, be sure to check for the latest updates and install them. If you do not meet the requirements, it’s time to get a new phone, as WhatsApp updates and support are crucial for security.
