Back in February earlier this year, in conjunction with WhatsApp hitting seven years of age, the company has brought some bad news to users of older mobile devices. WhatsApp has announced the ending of support for BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 devices, Nokia S40 and Symbian S60, Android 2.2 and earlier, Windows Phone 7 and iOS 6 devices. The support will end before 2017, but the company has announced an extension of support for a couple of the aforementioned mobile platforms.
BBOS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 devices will be receiving WhatsApp support, extended till the 30th of June, 2017. Support for the rest of the devices mentioned earlier however, will still be cut off by the end of 2016. That will be Android Gingerbread devices with version 2.2 and earlier, devices running Windows Phone 7, the iPhone 3GS and iOS 6 devices. Unless you happen to be stubbornly faithful to your age old mobile phones, we suggest that it’s time for you to upgrade to a newer mobile device, just like WhatsApp suggested.
As for BBOS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 users, you have 7 months of time for you to hunt for a new mobile device if you so intend to continue using the all popular messaging service which is WhatsApp. Speaking of which, any of you still operating these ancient devices?
