Earlier this year, iOS users were introduced to the picture-in-picture mode on their WhatsApp, where users are able to watch video content from third party apps within WhatsApp without the need to move outside of the chat window. Now, this mode will be made available on Android devices.
The latest update for Android version of WhatsApp, things are much more convenient as users will not be redirected to external pages if they clicked on video links sent from Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and many more. When a video link is sent to the user’s WhatsApp, the video card would appear with a blurred image of the video’s thumbnail as well as the platform logo.
When the user taps onto the link, it will activate the PiP mode which allows the video to be played over the top half of the chat window. Users are also able to view the videos on full screen and they will be able to operate the video timeline bar below, to scroll to or past different segments.
To get this mode, users are required to update their WhatsApp app or they could also check for WhatsApp version 2.18.380 through the Google Play Store. This mode can be used in both individual and group chats on WhatsApp, and is compatible for all Android devices.
