WhatsApp may introduce a feature to disable screenshots of chats

WhatsApp may soon allow users to block ability to screenshot chats in an upcoming update to the popular chatting app.

The folks over at WABetaInfo spotted the feature in an early build of the update, and they claim that its currently still in the works. The update will come with the introduction of biometric authentication, Although not much has been said on this feature, our best guess is that users can lock certain chats with biometric locks.

This plays into the app’s ability to block screenshots by disabling anyone within the chat to screenshot when biometric authentication is enabled for it. For a chat that isn’t secured by the lock, you’re free to screenshot away.

According to reports, the added security won’t hinder users from replying or answering via notifications by adding layers of steps to perform that task.

This feature is reportedly only available for Android systems, but iOS devices can expect the feature to be available soon too. There’s no news yet on when the update will roll out to the masses, but we welcome this change, which we think is especially useful for enterprise-centric group chats allowing members more freedom to share classified information without fear of it leaking.
