We all do know that Samsung’s smartphones aren’t particularly cheap when it comes to price point. Take the newly launched and highly acclaimed Galaxy Note 7 for example, which could turn out to be the best smartphone out in the market yet. Its price tag however, is another story. A contract-free Galaxy Note 7 costs over RM 3,000, RM 3,199 to be precise. Sure, there are carrier plans available to lessen the burden of paying a huge sum, but with the existence of Chinese smartphone manufacturers with competitive price points, many of us in the Asian market would be happy to settle for cheaper alternatives. However, Samsung is said to be working on future sales of refurbished handsets as cell phone repairs prices are cheap, which could well be the solution to our budgetary woes.
According to Reuters, the Korean manufacturer will be refurbishing returned high-end smartphones for resale at a lower price point. The source, who did not want to be identified, did not mention the availability of the program when it comes to regional markets, neither do we know by how much these refurbished devices would be discounted compared to their original prices.
The said plan is tipped to be one of the ways Samsung looks to sustain its current profits in its mobile department. If the claim by the source happens to be true, Samsung could be seeing an increase in attraction of consumers in the future, especially from markets in developing countries. All we know now is there is a possibility that we could see original Samsung refurbished Galaxy S7’s or Note 7’s soon.
