Vivo to update current devices to Android Oreo, beta starts in April

Back in our review of the Vivo V7 and V7 Plus, we have noted how the company has consistently delivered Android security patches and commended them for shipping the most recent build of Android Nougat on the phones, while our hopes aren’t high for major Android OS updates, Vivo has managed to surprised us this round with the announcement of updating some of its devices to Android Oreo, even though Funtouch OS isn’t going away anytime.

The software update announcement was made in China with a beta testing program, the eligible phone models were the X20, X20 Plus, X9s, Xplay6, X9, X9s Plus and X9 Plus, which are pretty high end models that is sold in the China market. As for Vivo devices sold in the Malaysian market, let’s just keep our fingers crossed that Vivo Malaysia will eventually do the same here, as the company’s track record for updating devices here has been decent in recent times.

According to Android Headlines, the beta testing of the Oreo software will commence on April, so if you happen to own any of the devices above, you might want to check it out on Vivo’s Chinese forum.
