VIVO unveils the 20MP selfie shooter V5 in India

VIVO is back at it again with another attempt to wow its own fans and consumers. With the dual front camera VIVO X9 in the works and slated for a launch tomorrow in China, the Chinese OEM has introduced another seemingly impressive selfie camera smartphone for its Indian consumers. The VIVO V5 is a premiumly designed mid range device with a staggering 20MP front facing camera. Let’s dive into the rest of its specs.

First of all, the VIVO V5 features a 5.5-inch display on the front which is at a sub par 720p resolution, a little shy from the standard 1080p resolution display that we see on most mid rangers nowadays. Lying underneath the hood is a 64-bit octa core MediaTek MT6750 processor clocked up to 1.5 GHz, 4GB of onboard RAM plus 32GB worth of internal storage, which is expandable to a further 128GB via the micro SD card slot.

On the rear panel is a standard 13MP rear camera equipped with an LED flash that should get the job done, but don’t expect flagship-like performance from this V5 handset. The front camera on the other hand seems more impressive on paper when compared with the V5’s rear camera. As mentioned earlier, the phone sports a whopping 20MP front facing selfie shooter in all its glory with an f/2.0 aperture. The selfie cam features a “Moonlight Glow” technology, which is supposed to further enhance the camera, providing clearer selfies, alongside VIVO’s Face Beauty 6.0 app.

While the company has appeared to skimp on the V5’s display, the phone is surprisingly equipped with a fingerprint sensor on the front panel beneath the home button. Powering the device is a 3,000mAh battery, and VIVO opted for the older micro USB port instead of the modern USB Type C technology. The phone will be running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

The VIVO V5 will set consumers back 17,980 INR (RM1,150.51) which is definitely on the pricey side given the phone’s specs. Exclusively available in India, only time will tell whether the seemingly overpriced handset will be able to make the cut. What do you think?
