In the search for innovation, Vivo has just stepped up their game with the announcement of the Vivo APEX 2019. The device sports no front camera, no buttons and no ports.
The APEX 2019 rids all physical buttons and implements capacitive and pressure sensitive buttons on the right side of the phone that acts as the power and power buttons.
Vivo hasn’t disclosed the actual size of the phone, but our hands-on experience with the device suggests that it could be a 6-inch device. The device sports a “G2 Curved Surface” display which lacks a notch or any cutout for a selfie camera – mostly because the phone doesn’t have one at the moment; but a Vivo representative says that the retail version could come with a selfie camera placed at the bottom of the phone.
The phone makes use of “Touch Sense” capacitive and pressure sensitive buttons in place of physical buttons. They’re used as power buttons as well as volume rockers on the side of the phone.
The Vivo APEX 2019 sports a dual-camera setup – however its specs have yet to be disclosed. Because the phone does not sport any ports, the phone charges via a magnetic power connector at the bottom part of the back panel.
There is also a lack of physical speakers, so for audio, the phone uses Vivo’s “SoundCasting” tech that vibrates the back panel of the phone to create sound. In addition to that, the phone also utilizes the “Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning” tech that allows you to scan anywhere on the display to unlock the phone.
Under the hood, the APEX 2019 comes with a Snapdragon 855 processor, 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. To be in line with Vivo’s futuristic visions of this phone, the APEX 2019 is also 5G ready, so the device is shaping up to be a capable flagship. No word on official release dates yet, but we expect the phone to roll out sometime this year.
