U Mobile launches WeChat Go SIM, unlimited WeChat usage for Chinese tourists in Malaysia

Ending the year with a bang, U Mobile has announced a partnership together with WeChat today in launching the WeChat Go SIM, a tourist SIM pack made for Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia, the SIM pack costs RM38 when purchased here and RM36.40 in China, which offers a 15 days validity data plan that comes with 5GB of local data, unlimited data to WeChat and Lingcod TV, and free 60 minutes local and IDD calls to China. Furthermore, the WeChat Go SIM also offers 1GB of free high speed roaming data when used to roam nearby countries, which includes Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

The preparation of this SIM pack is completed in three weeks, which is a record breaking timeframe for both U Mobile and WeChat. As the Malaysian Tourism and Culture Ministry has targeted to attract eight million Chinese tourists by 2020, the WeChat Go SIM is here with the intention to serve Chinese tourists, workers and their families visiting the country.

U Mobile CMO Jasmine Lee believes that the WeChat Go SIM enables endless possibilities as WeChat isn’t just a mere social messaging platform, the company will also work towards in enabling mobile commerce on the SIM for anyone who is a WeChat user as well.

The WeChat Go SIM will be available starting 6th December 2017 onwards, Chinese tourists will have the option to purchase the SIM back in China from Sunway Media retailers prior to travelling, or visit any 138 U Mobile outlets in Malaysia and various international airports in the country such as KLIA and KLIA 2.
