Touch ‘n Go have just announced a new partnership with taxi service EzCab and Public Cab which enables passengers to pay for rides via QR codes through the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app.
In the past, taxi drivers have problems with not having enough money changes for their customers but by introducing the new cashless payment method, taxi drivers don’t need to worry about this problem anymore and it is also much more convenient for both parties. It is reported that a total of 4,000 taxis have already been registered and equipped with the QR payment method and they are expecting to increase this number to 10,000 taxis by the end of this year.
To make a payment, enter the Touch ‘n Go app and use the Scan feature to scan the QR code of the taxi, enter the total fare including the toll fee, followed by your secret 6 digit pin number to complete the transaction. There will be a notification for each transaction, and both driver and passenger can track their payment history from the app.
“Making registered taxis in Malaysia QR enabled will modernise taxi drivers and allow them to offer a convenient and safe payment option for commuters. I urge taxi drivers nationwide to adopt this cashless payment channel moving forward,” said Transport Minister, Anthony Loke.
TNG Digital Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin hopes Touch ‘n Go could reach their ultimate goal which is to convert all 67,000 registered taxis nationwide to accept QR payments by end of 2019.
