TikTok’s new Family Pairing tool offers parental control over children’s account

More users are joining TikTok now that they have more time to spare, which is why TikTok has introduced Family Pairing — a new feature that gives parents control over their children’s TikTok account.

Now that schools are closed, children have more time at home which could also lead to more time on their smartphone screens. Once the parents’ account is linked to their children’s, they can limit the time their children spend on the app via the Digital Wellbeing settings. TikTok also collaborated with several popular creators to make videos that encourage TikTok users to take a break and participate in offline activities.

Apart from that, there’s also a feature called Restricted Mode to limit inappropriate content from appearing on their children’s news feed. This will help parents keep their children’s news feed clean so that the app remains safe to use. Apart from that, TikTok has begun limiting direct messages, in which Direct Messages will only be accessible to TikTok accounts of those who are aged 16 and above. In addition to that, images and videos cannot be sent in messages and only those who are approved can send messages to the one they follow.

From April 30 onwards, these features will start rolling out in the app and hopefully, families will feel safer using the app with their children.
