This Snapdragon 801 phone got an official software update to Android 10 from Android 5

Its rare to see a smartphone continue to receive updates after it has reached its end of life, while Apple is one of them that still issues security updates even to obsolete iOS devices, Fairphone has taken this to the next level by issuing an Android 10 update to its 2015 Fairphone 2 smartphone, which runs on a dated but still rather capable Snapdragon 801 processor and has 2GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.

Fairphone has been famous for making phones that promotes repairability and sustainability, their phones come with replaceable parts and you can easily perform self repairs by purchasing the components directly from the company.

Although Android 10 is still far from being the latest version of Android, it is no easy feat as Qualcomm would have stopped driver support for the phone’s chipset, Fairphone commits that the phone will continue to receive security updates as well until Google stops supporting Android 10, which could see the phone getting life for another 5 to 7 years.

Will this effort make you buy such a smartphone? Let us know in the comments.
