If you’re looking forward to a new Apple TV, you will be disappointed. Apple did not do a refresh on its aging Apple TV. Instead, the Cupertino giant has introduced a couple of new useful and nifty features to bring new life to the current generation of Apple TV, rendering a product refresh unnecessary.
Live from Apple’s October 2016 Keynote event, the company lays down its plans to consumers as it plans to unite all its digital content into one platform. Apple has brought a new app to the Apple TV, known as “TV”. With TV, content from different providers such as Netflix, HBO, CBS, live sports channel and so on. Available on both iOS and Apple TV, the TV app supports Siri commands as well, allowing users to use voice commands instead of typing. On top of that, Single Sign-In will work on TV as well, a feature which was introduced to the Apple TV earlier this year.
Apple has shown a couple of cool demo’s with the TV app. For instance, telling Siri that you want to watch your favorite football team will make the TV app work is magic to show you a live game of that team you requested, from a selected provider. While watching the game, users can view their Twitter feed at the same time without glancing at their iPhone, hence near zero distractions. As simple as the TV app may sound, it is definitely a nifty feature that consolidates all forms of digital content into one, accessible via your fingertips, or just mere speech commands.
As mentioned earlier, the TV app will be available on iOS and Apple TV, beginning this coming December. The app rollout will begin in the US before heading to other regions. What do you think about Apple retaining the old Apple TV with a new app? Stay tuned as we bring more updates from Apple’s Keynote event!
