The Snapdragon 660 and 630 provide enhanced gaming and camera capabilities

Qualcomm has been well known for producing mobile processors for modern smartphones. The company’s line of chipsets are definitely one of the most, if not the most popular in the smartphone market today. This year saw the first couple of handset running Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 835 processor, and today marks another day where the chip maker continues to push the boundaries of its mid range processors.

Qualcomm has finally unveiled two new mid range chipsets – the Snapdragon 660 and 630. Both processors come with the usual upgrades along with a couple of notable highlights this time round. As compared to last year’s mid range chips, Qualcomm has promised a bump up in performance in the photography and gaming aspect. The chips are also claimed to provide longer battery life and faster LTE speeds.

Both the Snapdragon 660 and 630 feature Qualcomm’s Spectra™ 160 premium camera ISP, which supports better camera image quality, better lowlight photography, as well as power efficiency for dual camera smartphones. It also supports smooth optical zoom, bokeh effects and dual pixel autofocus. In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 660 and 630 sport a Snapdragon X12 LTE modem, supporting peak downlink data rates of 600Mbps, a first in the company’s Snapdragon 600 series. They are also up to 60 percent less power consuming than the Snapdragon 652 processor when it comes to downloads.

Both chipsets as usual feature better CPU and GPU performance. The Snapdragon 630 for instance, features 10 percent and 30 percent better performance in CPU and GPU power respectively. The SD660 and 630 too come with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 support, capable of giving 50 percent of battery life with only 15 minutes of charging.

The mid range chipsets by Qualcomm has definitely caught up with its flagship processors and will continue doing so in the future. For the full low-down of the Snapdragon 660 and 630, pay Qualcomm’s blog a visit.
