Samsung’s Galaxy S10 will be appearing next year with huge updates such as the new Infinity-O display and also ultrasonic in-display sensor and also 5G connectivity. However, there might be one thing that the Galaxy S10 cannot do.
First of all, the S10 will come in 4 versions in which two of the models will be the successors to the S9 and the S9+ while the other two will be a cheaper model and a 5G model. According to reports, the cheaper model will come with a 5.8-inch display with single front camera and dual rear cameras, whereas the S10 will come with dual front cameras and dual rear cameras, and the S10+ has dual front camera with triple rear cameras. Meanwhile, information regarding the 5G version is still unknown, but it is expected to be the priciest one due to the new technology adaptation.

Despite that, there is one thing that these new devices seem to be incapable of, and that is the facial recognition technology have been adapted by many other smartphone brands. Because the 3D facial recognition technology requires various types of sensors, it is very likely that Samsung’s Infinity-O display will be unable to support the 3D face unlock feature. Since only one hole (or two for the dual front camera versions) will be drilled, there will be insufficient space to place components such as the infrared sensor, dot projector and flood illuminator.
It does seem like a setback for Samsung to skip the 3D facial recognition feature, but perhaps their ultrasonic in-display sensor is sufficient enough for users to skip the face unlock as the technology is supposed to result in more accurate and faster unlock. The Galaxy S10 is expected to be revealed in February next year and will probably be seen at next year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
