The Redmi 4X might kill off the Moto G5

Just yesterday, Lenovo launched its Moto G5 series, consisting of the standard Moto G5 and a G5 Plus model at Mobile World Congress. Today Xiaomi has launched a handset which goes up against the entry level Moto G5, if not trumping it in a few areas. The Redmi 4X might turn out to be the ultimate Moto G5 killer.

Despite its absence at MWC Barcelona, Xiaomi has been working hard at home in China. Alongside the Mi 5c which is powered by Xiaomi’s own brand new Surge S1 processor, the Chinese manufacturer has also introduced a successor to its own Redmi 4 – the Redmi 4X. The Redmi 4X features an all metal design despite it being an entry level device. The phone sports a sub par 720p display on the front measuring it 5-inches. This is probably the only aspect in which the Redmi 4X loses out to the Moto G5 as the latter sports a full HD display.

Underneath the hood, Xiaomi went with an octa core Snapdragon 435 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. It comes with two configurations of 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 3GB RAM/32GB storage, which is of course expandable via the hybrid dual SIM/micro SD card slot. The cameras of the Redmi 4X are what you’ll normally expect with an entry level smartphone – a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front facing shooter with f/2.2 aperture. What differentiates the Redmi 4X from the Moto G5 is its battery – a mammoth 4,100mAh battery which Xiaomi claims can last up to 2 days. The Moto G5’s battery capacity on the other hand pales in comparision at 2,800mAh.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4X is currently on sale in China, beginning at 699 CNY (RM451.83) for the 2GB RAM/16GB variant and 899 CNY (RM581.11) for the 3GB RAM/32GB variant. Both models are around half the price of the Moto G5, giving the Redmi 4X a large potential to go up against Lenovo’s new entry level device. What do you think?
