The Nintendo Switch's online service will cost between JPY2,000 to JPY3,000 per year

Back during the full presentation of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo mentioned that the upcoming console will have an online service that comes with a monthly subscription. This little details has made many people hesitant about the console as nobody quite knows how much Nintendo intends to charge for the service. While Nintendo has yet to pin down a proper pricing structure for the online service subscription, the company did manage to give a ballpark range of how much the subscription will cost per year.

Speaking to The Nikkei Asian Review, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has mentioned that a subscription to the Nintendo Switch’s online service will be priced between JPY2,000 to JPY3,000 per year. Converted to local currency, those looking to buy a Nintendo Switch can expect to fork out, at most, an additional RM120 for a year’s subscription to the Switch’s online service. For comparison, a 12-month subscription to PlayStation Plus costs RM129.

Aside from the standard online multiplayer support, subscribers to the Nintendo Switch online platform can also expect to receive digital copies of classic games on a monthly rotation basis as well as other services. As the online subscription model isn’t expected to go live until Summer, you need not worry about online subscriptions until July at the earliest.
