The Honor V8, another dual-camera smartphone by Huawei

Like any other anticipated smartphone, the Honor V8 has been teased and leaked repeatedly by multiple parties across the word wide web, and the good news is, we don’t have to depend on those anymore. The Huawei Honor V8 has finally been unveiled to the world.

First of all, the Honor V8 comes with a premium metal chassis, which Huawei claims to be diamond cut, probably only to make it sound more premium. But in terms of overall looks, the Honor V8 largely retains design elements from previous Huawei and Honor devices, looking pretty similar to the Huawei P9 which was recently launched. The phone’s display comes in two different resolutions at 5.7 inches, either in Full HD or Quad HD, depending on the model you choose. Huawei chose to go with a HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor, instead of the slightly more powerful Kirin 955 seen under the hood of the P9, alongside 4GB of RAM and storage options of 32GB or 64GB, expandable via micro SD.

Things get a little more interesting in the camera department of the Honor V8, sporting a dual-camera setup of 12MP each, however without any Leica branding in sight, or “certification”, for that matter. But then again, you will most likely not be able to differentiate a Leica certified camera from a camera which isn’t, on Huawei phones that is. On the front, the Honor V8 impresses yet again with a sharp 8MP selfie shooter.

Of course, we’re not forgetting the snappier than usual rear fingerprint sensor on the Honor V8, which is packed with 3D fingerprint technology to prevent fake fingeprints. The handset is packed with a 3,500mAh which is capable of fast charging. Oddly enough, you can opt for a NFC or non-NFC model of the Honor V8, which will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 skinned on top. The Honor V8 will be offered in three models:

  • 4GB RAM + 32GB storage, FHD Display + No NFC  – RMB 2299 (RM1425.94)
  • 4GB RAM + 32GB storage, FHD Display + NFC       – RMB 2499 (RM1549.99)
  • 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, QHD Display + NFC       – RMB 2799 (RM1736.06)

What do you think of the Honor V8? How does it fare up against the Huawei P9? Till then, stay tuned!
