TCL 40 NXTPAPER series launches in Malaysia from RM899

TCL has officially launched the TCL 40 NXTPAPER series today in Malaysia, comprising 4G and 5G variants, they are immediately available for purchase starting today at authorized dealers, and TCL Mobile online store on Lazada and Shopee.

The TCL 40 NXTPAPER series was unveiled in IFA 2023, they are the world’s first smartphones to be fitted with a matte surface display, which offers great eye comfort when viewing in low light, while it remains visible under direct sunlight due to its non-reflective coating.

The TCL 40 NXTPAPER 4G variant features a 6.78-inch FHD+ display that refreshes at 90Hz, powered by a Mediatek Helio G88 chipset mated to 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage, the phone has a very expensive premium build despite being a mid-range device, it also packs 3D BoomSound dual stereo speakers with DTS support.

The phone boasts stylus input with support for TCL’s proprietary T-Pen stylus, which is included in the box and allows the user to scribble and doodle on the screen like a paper, and since the phone itself doesn’t come with a silo for storing the stylus, TCL does provide a case that you can store the stylus at the back.

Aside from its matte display, TCL has also included a NXTPAPER mode in the phone, where it offers a more comfortable viewing experience by emulating a color or monochrome e-paper display, this is very useful for those who uses their phones to read e-books, but still enjoys a smooth navigation on the screen.

Imaging wise, you get a triple camera setup on the back that comprises a 50MP f/1.8 main, 5MP ultrawide and 2MP depth camera, while a rather high resolution 32MP camera residing in a punch hole cutout takes care of selfies, a 5,000mAh battery juices the phone with support for 33W fast charging.

As for the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G, it features a sandstone textured back that hasn’t been seen for a while, it however has a smaller display than the 4G model at 6.6-inches and only pushes HD+ resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate, the phone thankfully has a much recent and more capable Mediatek Dimensity 6020 processor, it has 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage.

In terms of cameras, it offers a triple camera setup with a 50MP main, 2MP depth and 2MP macro cameras, the selfie shooter is an 8MP camera, which is overall a step down from the 4G model.

The phone has the same 5000mAh battery as the 4G model, but it will only charge at 15W instead, which will take a while to charge when battery runs low.

Available in color options of Opalescent and Midnight Blue, the TCL 40 NXTPAPER retails for RM899, and the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G on Starlight Black retails for RM999, customers purchasing the latter will be given a free TCL MOVEAUDIO Air Wireless Earbuds worth RM159.
