TCL gets serious about its smartphones in CES 2020

TCL smartphones were great as we reviewed the TCL Plex last year, the company is getting really serious about making its own branded smartphone based on its expertise on displays. At CES 2020, TCL has shown off to medias the new TCL 10 series smartphones, which comprises the 10L, 10 Pro and 10 5G – simple and straightforward names.

No hardware specifications have been shared to the medias, however the 10L and 10 Pro are obvious successors to the PLEX, which now comes with four cameras on the back and will supposedly run Snapdragon 600 series processors. As for the 10 5G, TCL says that it is powered by a Snapdragon 700 series chip which could possibly be the Snapdragon 765, which has a 5G modem integrated into the chip that will potentially resolve power consumption issues.

The TCL 10 Pro gets the main spotlight among the other two, where it has a curved display like Samsung’s flagship phones and boasting a visual processor that converts SDR content to HDR, TCL also says that it is possible that the end product might come with a variable refresh rate that could go up to 120Hz, I’d still take that with a pinch of salt for now, but let’s face it, why is there still a waterdrop notch on a modern smartphone?

The TCL PLEX we reviewed last time has a really competitive price tag of RM1,199, so we should expect these phones to be priced around the same range when it gets released, TCL will only reveal more details about the phones in Mobile World Congress next month, do you think TCL will price its first 5G phone below RM2000? Let us know your thoughts.
