Synaptics is bringing under-screen fingerprint sensors to phones

Looks like the time has finally come where we will be seeing phones with under screen fingerprints sensors as Synaptics has plans to mass produce an optical in-display fingerprint sensor and they added that a very big partner backing them.

They are calling this technology Clear ID, which will allow for bezeless phones to have biometrics on the phone other than facial recognition. We have seen a video of an unknown Vivo phone with this same technology so they are not the first company to achieve this, but they have claimed that they are dealing with an unnamed top five. Synaptics also boasted that Clear ID performs twice as fast as 3D facial recognition and will require one touch, which is an obvious reference to Apple’s Face ID. The company added that it will also work in a situation even when it’s sitting on the table, at any angle, or in a car mount.

This might be a sight of relieve for some users that would still prefer fingerprint sensors, compared to facial recgonition, we have seen that hackers have already found multiple ways to fool the Face ID, which is also relatively easy to do. Let’s hope with this, fingerprint sensors are here to stay.
