Spotify’s experimental feature Tastebuds lets you stalk your friend’s music preference

Spotify is testing a new way for you to listen to new music, based on your friends’ preferences; this experimental feature is now known as Tastebuds.

Discovered by Jane Manchun Wong and her reverse-engineering skills, Tastebuds is a prototype that’ll allow you to browse for different music based on the people you follow on Spotify. This is also presumably Spotify’s way of trying to bring more social features into the app as there are very little features in the app that can let you connect to your friends.

However, we can assume that this requires users to turn off their private session and turn on their listening activity in Settings. After all, some Spotify users might not want to share their information and will complain if Spotify blatantly revealed their activity on the app despite them hiding their listening activity.

For now, the only way to check out what your friends are listening to is the Friend Activity feature that is only available on the Spotify desktop app.
