Spotify might be launching their smart speaker on 24 April

A few months back, we reported that Spotify is in the process of creating a new hardware, and based on speculations it could be a new Smart Speaker to go up against the likes of Google Home, HomePod and Alexa. It looks like we might get the chance to see the new speaker at the end of April.

The company has just sent out invitations to the international media, asking them to save the date of 24 April 2018 as they have a news announcement. The speakers might not be the only device they will be launching, as we could also see the in-car speaker that might also be introduced with the goal of driving their revenue. The smart speaker will work with all current Spotify subscriptions but the in-car speaker will be priced at $12.99 a month which includes equipment and streaming services and is locked to a one-year subscription, based on reports.

It would be interesting to see how Spotify takes on the smart speaker game and how they plan to improve their profits since their signing of becoming a public listed company. Let’s see what they have to offer when 24 April comes around.
