Spotify is currently testing voice commands in their app

A number of Spotify users will be able to try a new voice interface system that will allow you to use voice commands to play and find new music. The feature is still in its testing phase and is not available to everyone yet.

Last year, we saw that Google Assistant can be used to play and find music on Spotify, but Spotify’s own dedicated voice command will offer a better experience for specifically finding music, playlist, songs or discovering music. The feature was found by Twitter user Hunter Owners who posted a tweet of it, Spotify representative has also confirmed that this feature is just a test and they are only allowing a small number of users to test it out. Using your voice to navigate Spotify would be nice especially if you are hosting a party and want to change the music playing.

TechCrunch has speculated that Spotify might be using the voice interface to develop their own smart speaker, we know that Spotify is making a device so this could be the first step to train the AI that will be powering their future device.
