Spotify is bringing a Clubhouse feature to its main app

The Spotify app is about to get a lot cramped, as the company is about to merge Greenroom, its live audio app, into the main Spotify app will be rebranded as Spotify Live, this is essentially a Clubhouse like feature where creators can create live audio chat rooms to engage with their subscribers.

At this time of writing, the feature has yet to reach Malaysian subscribers, while Spotify Live will continue to work like Greenhouse, there isn’t an interactive feature where audiences can raise questions to creators, but rather it allows the creators to reach out to a broader audience of Spotify’s 406 million global listeners.

Greenroom is originally known as Locker Room, which was owned by startup Betty Labs and acquired by Spotify in March 2021 for $62 million, it was then rebranded to Greenroom in June 2021 to match the company’s identity, while it rolled out live weekly shows that leverages on Spotify’s existing playlists and popular programming.

Live audio was a big hit when the pandemic begin and apps like Clubhouse rose to fame when personalities such as Elon Musk joined the platform to interact with audiences, which even Facebook and Twitter joined in the fun later on but failed to gain much traction thereafter.

Spotify’s approach is different here as you will need to sign up as its creator to host a live audio show, whereas the rest will simply require you sign up for a free account to do so. However, will you be looking forward to the live audio feature in Spotify?
