We talked back in our Oppo R1x review that flagships are no longer stealing the spotlight these days and Sony’s announcement of two mid-range devices have proven that statement to become even more relevant, the Xperia C5 Ultra and M5 are the new mid-range superstars in Sony’s smartphone line up and they pack some decent features under the hood.

The Xperia C5 Ultra is what Sony calls it a PROSelfie phone, the phone is actually a step up from the company’s Xperia C4 and its front camera has been upgraded to a 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera with LED flash while maintaining the very same 13-megapixel main camera, performance is managed by a Mediatek MT6752 64-bit Octa-Core SoC with 2GB of RAM, the phone has a huge 6-inch Full HD display, 16GB of internal flash with storage expansion, and a 2930mAh battery that aims to deliver two days of battery life.

On the other hand, the Xperia M5 is a waterproof smartphone that features a 21.5-megapixel Hybrid AF f/2.2 Exmor RS main camera that supports 4K video recording and a front facing 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera, the phone has a finger friendly 5-inch display size that produces Full HD resolution and it is also noteworthy that a Mediatek Helio X10 SoC with 3GB of RAM powers the device, which makes it a serious contender to flagship devices such as HTC’s One M9 Plus.

Its been a while since Sony has such exciting mid-range devices and they are now the very best mid-range smartphones you can buy, as these two phones feature really great smartphone performance and most importantly, the pair of powerful cameras. According to 9to5Google, the Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 are slated to have an August launch date so we should’t be waiting too long for our local debut, but lets hope these phones are reasonably priced.
