Sony unveils the WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds

Sony officially unveiled the WF-1000XM5 earbuds, succeeding the WF-1000XM4 that was launched back in 2021.

The new WF-1000XM5 mirrors its predecessor in design with only a few subtle changes. The earbuds feature memory foam tips that seem slimmer yet stronger. Moreover, a glossy finish now graces the base of the earbuds.

Sony has pulled out all the stops when it comes to the internal workings of the WF-1000XM5. Each earbud is equipped with an array of advanced technology including a new Dynamic Driver X, an upgraded 2nd generation HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN2e, and a fresh Integrated Processor V2. These features collectively enable the earbuds to deliver 24-bit audio processing and amplification.

The ear tips of the WF-1000XM5 continues to use the same polyurethane material that debuted with the WF-1000XM4. In addition, these earbuds also feature the brand’s top-tier Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) function.

Being a Sony audio product, the WF-1000XM5 includes the brand’s array of sound enhancements like LDAC, DSEE Extreme, 360 Reality Audio, and Hi-Res Audio. Not to forget, they also feature a Speak-to-Chat function that pauses media playback whenever the earbuds detect the wearer’s voice.

In terms of battery life, Sony claims that the WF-1000XM5 can run for up to eight hours on a single charge, with the charging case holding two additional charges or 16 extra hours. Furthermore, the case can offer an hour of playtime from just three minutes of charging and is compatible with Qi wireless charging, much like its predecessor.

The WF-1000XM5 will hit the shelves starting from August 2023 and will retail for RM1,399.
