Sony will be joining MWC 2019, and based on its recent post on Twitter, the company appears to be launching a new phone called the Xperia 1.
If the name is confirmed, it will mean that Sony plans on dropping the XZ branding and getting a fresh start. The Xperia 1 is also reported to get an ultra wide display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, no notch and really thin bezels.

According to renders made by Evan Blass, the Xperia 1 will also come with a single front camera on its front and a triple camera on its rear. It’ll also be integrated with an in-display fingerprint scanner, and while the typical physical buttons are still there, you’ll notice that there’s one more button on the bottom half which made me curious, though some suggested that it could be a shutter button.
Other rumours include the phone getting a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and a hefty 4,400mAh battery. Blass also suggested that the phone might have a 4K HDR OLED screen, which is relevant to its predecessors even though it’s losing the line’s branding.

Sony’s press conference will land on February 25, so it’s only a few days before we really find out what the Xperia 1 is about and if it’s really going to be called the Xperia 1.
