New Snapdragon 888+ announced with a 3GHz CPU and stronger AI engine

The Snapdragon 888+ chipset was announced during MWC 2021. The new chipset comes with a 3GHz prime CPU core and has better AI performance, but those are the only new changes with the chip. Other components remain the same performance-wise.

No major upgrades/changes with the Snapdragon 888+ chip

If we compare the chipsets in the Snapdragon 888 series, there is not much difference. You still get three Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55 cores that has the same clock speed; only the prime core, the Cortex-X1 is boosted up to 2.995GHz.

Another upgrade is the AI engine which is increased from 26 to 32 TOPS — this is a 20% increase in AI performance.

Apart from that, you’re getting the same components — a Snapdragon X60 5G modem, an Adreno 660 GPU and the same architecture using 5nm process.

These phones have been confirmed to use the new Qualcomm chipset

The Snapdragon 888+ is expected to debut in the third quarter of 2021; several phone brands have already confirmed to be using the new chipset in their phones. This includes the next ROG Phone, the HONOR Magic 3 and phones from Xiaomi, Motorola and vivo.
