SK Hynix unveils GDDR6 graphics DRAM

Still thinking that your GPU is already super fast with a GDDR5X memory? SK Hynix has just officially unveiled the fastest graphics memory DRAM ever, the GDDR6 memory is set to offer up to 16Gbps of bandwidth, twice the speed and has 10% lower voltage of GDDR5, it will also have 384-bit of I/Os and processes 768GB of graphics data per second, and SK Hynix says that the chip will be mass produced for a client that makes high end graphics card in early 2018, which we can easily assume to be NVIDIA’s upcoming Volta graphics card.

As SK Hynix puts it, the GDDR6 memory is a necessary memory solution for growing industries such as Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, self-driving cars and high definition dispays over 4K to support their virtualization. The previous GDDR5X memory has up to 548GB/s of memory bandwidth, hence GDDR6 sure introduces a significant performance boost over its predecessor, the efficiency of the RAM is attributed to the all new 2Znm process. SK Hynix expects GDDR6 to speedily substitute GDDR5 and GDDR5X when it gets released, and it has been collaborting with core graphics chipset client to timely mass produce the chip.

Well, if you can wait till 2018 to upgrade your GPU, its probably a good thing.
