The Sharp Aquos R Compact has a 4.9-inch bezel-less display

Sharp is probably the first ever company to make a smartphone with a bezel-less display on the front. Launched back in 2014, the Sharp Aquos Crystal lived among ordinary looking phones before more bezel-less display handsets came about this year. Now Sharp is playing catch-up with a compact sized smartphone of a similar design.

The Sharp Aquos R Compact is a tinier version of the regular Aquos R that was released earlier this year. Unlike its larger sibling, the Sharp Aquos R Compact actually sports smaller to no bezels on the sides and above the 4.9-inch Full HD+ display. The display has a camera cut out in the middle like the Essential Phone. A drawback might be the huge chin below the display which houses the home button.

Underneath the hood is a powerful mid range Snapdragon 660 processor, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. The camera department of the Sharp Aquos R Compact sounds impressive on paper as well – a 16MP hybrid AF rear shooter and an 8MP selfie camera. The phone comes packed with a 2,500mAh battery which supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 via the USB Type-C port.

The Sharp Aquos R Compact will likely remain a device exclusive to the Japanese market when it releases this coming December. This is probably the first ever compact device with a bezel-less display. What do you think?
