SELangkah is a COVID-19 tracing system for Selangor businesses to be used by visitors

With business now re-opening thanks to loosening restrictions brought by the Conditional MCO – the Selangor state government has introduced COVID-19 tracing system called SELangkah – emphasis on the word ‘system’ here because we’ve been hearing a lot about tracing apps lately, and this isn’t like those.

However, it does serve the same purpose of monitoring cluster infections and possible contact between virus carriers and the uninfected. SELangkah is meant for business owners who’ve opened their doors to resume operations – they have to download and print a QR code from the SELangkah portal and display that QR code at the front of the premise for customers/visitors to scan.

Once the customer/visitor has scanned the code, they will have to register themselves via the link that pops up, which will be the SELangkah portal – this is a logging purpose for the health officers and authorities to monitor contact detection around Selangor. 

The process may seem tedious, but it is necessary given the circumstances – if we’re to recover from the pandemic with efficiency, steps like these must be taken – we’re at least this is happening in the age of smartphones and accessible internet, unlike the SARS outbreak in the early 2000s’
