Samsung will unveil new Gear wearable at IFA 2017

We are only a week away from the last major technology trade show of the year before we start it over again with CES next year. IFA 2017 is drawing close as manufacturers gear up to launch their respective products. Samsung might have been done with this year’s major flagships like the Galaxy S8 and the freshly baked Galaxy Note 8, but the company is “Gear”-ing up for another product launch at Berlin when IFA 2017 commences.

According to news outlet CNBC, Samsung will be launching a new smartwatch under its Gear brand. This comes from CNBC’s exclusive interview with DJ Koh, the president of Samsung’s mobile division. Koh claims that the next iteration of the company’s Gear S series will be launched next week. This is likely part of Samsung’s efforts to combat Apple’s products, particularly its upcoming Apple Watch Series 3 with this launch.

August 2016 saw the launch of the Gear S3 series by the South Korean manufacturer, so it is no surprise that the wearable collection will see a refresh next week. Apple holds more than 14% of the wearable market share while Samsung pales in comparison with 5.5%, despite a 90% year-on-year growth.

Samsung’s Tizen OS powered Gear S3 has proven to be feature filled and possibly a little more practical than Android Wear devices. Let’s hope Samsung carries that on with the upcoming Gear S smartwatch.
