Samsung Pay enters Open Beta Test stage on the 1st of November in Malaysia

Samsung’s payment system, Samsung Pay, was first demonstrated in Malaysia back during the Samsung Forum held at KLCC back in January. Since then, the system has been undergoing a closed beta test that is limited to its employees. Today, Samsung Malaysia has revealed that it will be conducting an Open Beta test of the payment system, and it will begin on the 1st of November.

For those who do not know what Samsung Pay is, this system would allow you to register a credit card or debit card to any Samsung smartphone that supports the Samsung Pay system. Once a card is registered to your phone, you can then make contactless mobile payments through your Samsung device, either through Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) or Near Field Communication (NFC). The Samsung Pay system is reinforced with Samsung’s own KNOX security platform, as well as a digital tokenization system, ensuring that the card details on your Samsung device of choice remains secure.

One thing to note about the Samsung Pay Open Beta test is only Maybank Visa Debit, Visa Credit, and Visa Prepaid cards are supported. Any cards outside of these will not be supported, so make sure you have a Maybank Visa in hand before registering for the Open Beta test. Needless to say, you’ll also need a compatible Samsung device of your own, which is shown in the image above.

Samsung has yet to announce a local launch date for Samsung Pay, but with the announcement of an Open Beta Test, it seems that we might be getting it before the end of 2016.
