Samsung patents a smartphone with a screen that wraps the back of the phone

Samsung has yet again filed another patent for a smartphone with a screen that wraps around the edge and back of the phone which was discovered by LetsGoDigital. The patent was filed September last year but was only published today.

In the filing, it did not mention the reasons for having a screen setup like this but from the patent illustrations, we can see that some of the icons will be positioned on the edges of the phone. They are not the first company to propose a design like this, as Apple has a patent for a wraparound display last year and LG has its own ornamental wraparound screen patent earlier this year. As most of you know, Samsung created the Galaxy Note Edge where the screen goes all the way to the edge of the phone but not to the back.

Like all odd and cool patent designs we have seen this year, a phone with this design factor might not see the light of day. This looks more like a gimmick rather than a feature that users might actually utilize as its going to be very odd to hold the back of the phone without pressing on the screen.
