Samsung officially launched circular Gear S2 in Malaysia after the pre-order started last week. In terms of hardware, the Gear S2 runs on Samsung proprietry Tizen OS and has a 1.2-inch (360×360) circular Super AMOLED display, powered by a 1.0GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a 250mAh Li-ion battery. The company claimed that the Gear S2 has two to three days of battery life before needing a recharge.

Besides that, the IP68-rated Gear S2 is part smartwatch, part fitness tracker which isn’t surprising that it comes packed with a multitude of sensors to monitor your fitness activities, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, ambient light sensor, and even a heart rate monitor.

There will be two variants of the Gear S2 available at all Samsung Experience Stores nationwide from tomorrow onwards: the Gear S2 (Sport), and the Gear S2 Classic. But the difference between the two variants, is that the latter is fitted with a genuine leather band while the former is fitted with one that’s made of silicone. Both the straps of the Gear S2 Sport and the Gear S2 Classic are available in a variety of different designs, and you can change them with ease.

The difference between the Gear S and S2 will be the compatibility issue as its predecessor was only compatible with Samsung devices, while the Gear S2 will now be able to pair up with Android devices from other manufacturers, as long as they’re running on Android 4.4 KitKat and above.

The Gear S2 Sport will be priced at RM1,399 with two colors – Dark Gray and Silver, while the Gear S2 Classic – which will only be available in Black, comes with an RM1,599 price tag. Stay tuned for the full review on the new Samsung Gear S2.
