Samsung launches high end flip phone in China

Although flip phones are a dying breed in this modern day and age, Samsung still attempts to carry on the legacy, especially in China. The South Korean manufacturer have made a couple of clamshell smartphones exclusively for the Chinese market, and this latest addition sports pretty high end specs by smartphone standards.

As it is a flip phone, the Samsung SM-G9298 does not have a conventional display. Instead, it packs two displays, one on the external and another on the internal side. Both displays are of Full HD resolution, measuring at 4.2-inches. The SM-G9298 still features the traditional keypad below the internal display. The external display has the always on display support.

Underneath the hood, the SM-G9298 is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor, which happens to be the go to flagship chipset for the most part of 2016. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The handset sports a 12MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, which might turn out to be the same rear shooter as the Galaxy S7 and S8 series of flagship phones. Coupled with that is a 5MP selfie camera.

Unfortunately, the SM-G9298 still charges via a micro USB port instead of the newer Type-C port, but it supports wireless charging as an added bonus. The phone packs a 2,300mAh battery, which can be too little considering that it has two Full HD displays to sustain.

It is highly likely that the Samsung SM-G9298 will only be available in China. The pricing of the flagship clamshell smartphone has yet to be announced. What do you think?
