Samsung launches Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5, starts at RM4,499 and RM6,799 respectively

Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5, both phones feature a new hinge design that makes them slimmer and lighter than their predecessors, they are also powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip that powers the Galaxy S23 series this year, making them the most powerful foldable phones ever.

Galaxy Z Flip5

One of the highlights of the Galaxy Z Flip5 is the larger 3.4-inch cover display, which Samsung calls it the ‘Flex Window’, it now offers more customization options, including matching clock designs with the Galaxy Watch6 series and stylish frames. Moreover, the new Flipsuit Case allows for further personalization and protection with a changeable NFC card.

With the new hinge design, the Galaxy Z Flip5 is now 2mm thinner than its predecessor and measures 15mm when folded, the internal 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display continues to refresh at 120Hz and now has a less visible crease than before.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 offers a wide range of utilities and functions, from quick access to essential information, easy control of music playback, and stock market updates through Google Finance. Users can also effortlessly check notifications and access Quick Settings for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, make payments on the go with Samsung Wallet, and more, without ever opening the device.

Equipped with an improved dual camera system that comprises dual 12-megapixel wide and ultrawide cameras, the Z Flip5 is capable of taking high-quality selfies through the larger Flex Window and hands-free photos with FlexCam. The device also boasts improved low-light photography, digital zoom capabilities, and AI enhancements, while on the inside, it retains the same 10-megapixel selfie camera in a punch hole cut out.

Otherwise, the Z Flip5 brings over several features of its predecessor, including a 3700mAh battery that supports 25W charging, 15W wireless charging and IPX8 water resistance.

Galaxy Z Fold5

The Galaxy Z Fold5 continues to offer the same 6.2-inch cover and 7.6-inch internal displays, though it has improved the internal display with a higher 1750nits peak brightness with a 120Hz refresh rate, the new slimmer hinge design gives it a 2.4mm slimmer profile and weighs 10g lesser than its predecessor.

In terms of software, the Galaxy Z Fold5 now allows quick switching between frequently used apps with up to four recently used apps on the taskbar, efficient content transfer between apps and screens, and the ability to run apps in the background. Coupled with a more compact and pocket-friendly S Pen, the Galaxy Z Fold5 makes productivity on the go a reality.

Features such as Taskbar, drag and drop, and third-party app optimization, along with an improved S Pen Fold Edition, provide a dynamic productivity experience.

Camera wise, the Z Fold5 employs the same camera system from the Galaxy S23+, which comprises a 50-megapixel main, 12-megapixel ultrawide and 10-megapixel telephoto cameras, the internal under-display camera is still the same 4-megapixel camera, while the cover screen’s punch hole cutout houses a 10-megapixel camera.

The Z Fold5 is juiced by the same 4400mAh battery with support for 25W fast wired charging, Samsung claims improved thermal performance with a 38% larger vapor chamber, which allows for extended gameplay and productivity sessions without slowing down the device.

Availability and Pricing

Like other Galaxy smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 enjoys the same software update policy from Samsung, which the company will offer five years of security updates and four generations of OS upgrades.

Starting August 18, 2023, the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 will be available nationwide in Malaysia.

The Galaxy Z Fold5 comes in three variants, with the 256GB model priced at RM 6,799, the 512GB model at RM 7,299, and the 1TB model at RM 8,299, retail color options include Icy Blue, Phantom Black and Cream, while exclusive online colors include Gray and Blue.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 256GB model will be available at RM 4,499, and the 512GB model will be available at RM4,999. Retail color options include Mint, Lavendar, Cream and Graphite, while exclusive online colors include Gray, Blue, Green and Yellow, no BESPOKE Edition is offered this time.
