Samsung gears up for a Malaysian release of the Gear S3 in December

The Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch was launched at IFA 2016 back in September. Samsung has taken advantage of the absence of Android Wear smartwatches by major OEM’s in 2016 with what seems to be the most attractive and “watch looking” wearable so far. Having released the Gear S3 earlier this month in selected regions, Samsung has been working hard to get the wearable released here in our local shores next month.

To recap, the Gear S3 comes in two different models – the Gear S3 Frontier and the Gear S3 Classic. The Gear S3 Frontier is the more rugged of the two, aimed at the adventurous folk who often flee to the outdoors for a great escape. Aesthetically, you can tell that it is definitely the rugged and Samsung isn’t hiding that fact, making it look the way that it should. The Gear S3 Classic on the other hand, is aimed at young adults who are looking to be trendsetters, who value fashion and practicality.

The Gear S3 runs on Samsung’s own Tizen OS, and retains the same circular UX that was first unveiled with the previous Gear S2. The wearable features Samsung’s Always On Display, boasting an array of 16 million colors, and has a bigger battery, 50% more capacity compared to its predecessor. The Gear S3 also has an IP68 rating, plus it has a whole bunch of sensors including a barometer, speedometer, altimeter, a heart rate sensor and a GPS as well.

The Malaysian pricing for the Gear S3 has yet to be released, but the smartwatch starts at $350 in the US, so that’s a form of reference if you are keen to find out. Will you be getting one Gear S3 yourself?
