Samsung Galaxy S8 series far surpasses pre-order expectations

Samsung stormed the world when it launched the Galaxy S8 series of smartphones, comprising of the Galaxy S8 and the S8+. In the Android world, Samsung has been in its own league for quite some time now, especially when you factor in the sales of its flagship series. Similar to movies breaking box office records, it looks like the Galaxy S8 series has surpassed expectations in terms of its pre-orders, faring way better than Samsung did with its flagships last year.

The Korea Herald reports that Samsung has received a staggering 550,000 pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 within the first two days in its home country South Korea. The record figure is more than 5 times the pre-orders of the Galaxy S7 in the same duration last year. The Galaxy S7 raked in 100,000 pre-orders in its first two days. The Galaxy Note 7 fared better, scoring 200,000 pre-orders, despite the phablet being short lived after the fire crisis. Suppliers for the Galaxy S8 – Samsung Electro-mechanics and Samsung SDI are expected to bounce back from their 2016 Q4 losses caused by the Galaxy Note 7 global recall.

The Galaxy S8 series now sets a higher bar in sales for South Korean company, with one of its key selling points being the edge to edge near bezel-less display. Fellow South Korean manufacturer LG is also predicted to intensify the competition with its earlier launched LG G6 flagship smartphone.
