Today, Samsung Malaysia Electronics unveiled the all-new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ to Malaysians and announced its availability in a media launch event held at Sunway Pyramid mall in Malaysia. Both smartphones sport large screens to cater for those who prefer a larger display.

We have already covered what to expect in the Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ when it was launched in New York, but to reiterate, both phones come with Exynos Octa-Core 2.1GHz Quad+1.5GHz Quad 64-bit 14nm processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. No support for microSD just like the recently launched Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

Both handsets also comes with a 16MP OIS f/1.9 rear camera and 5MP f/1.9 front camera, however, the displays are slightly different only in terms of the “edge”; both phones have 2560×1440 518ppi displays, but only the Galaxy S6 edge+ comes with dual edge screen.

As for the battery capacity, both the Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ sports a 3,000mAh battery and supports fast charging on both wired and wireless chargers. I was told that the fast charging on the wired charger takes about 90 minutes to charge a full battery, while wirelessly takes about 120 minutes.

For the Galaxy Note5, one of its new feature is the ability for you to write a memo when the screen is off. This is actually rather innovative and a time saver since you don’t need to launch the S Memo to jot down something quickly. Once you’ve written your offscreen note, just place the S Pen back into the dock and your note will be saved automatically in your S Memo.

Another new feature is the ability to take a screenshot of web articles or long images using “Scroll Capture”.  On top of that, for those who have used the Note 4, you will notice when you see the Note5 that the Air Command has changed, and for the better. You can add your own favourite icon shortcut – up to three apps, so when you launch Air Command, you can immediately access your favourite apps.

As for the Galaxy S6 edge+, there has only been a few minor changes compared to the Galaxy S6 edge. For one, it now has 4GB of RAM as mentioned earlier, and on top of that it has a bigger screen – at 5.7-inch. Another new feature that it has that theGalaxy S6 and S6 edge does not have yet, is the “Apps edge”. Basically, instead of just being able to set your favourite contacts on the edge of the screen, you can now also place your favourite apps there.

The Samsung Galaxy Note5 will be priced at RM2,699, while the Galaxy S6 edge+ priced at RM3,099; both prices include 6% GST.

Now, for the freebies and promotion information. Samsung is also introducing a limited-time promotion campaign – the first 200 people in line to puchase the Galaxy Note5 at the roadshow events will be given a Golden Ticket to allow them to buy a second set at a 50% discount. On top of that, any purchase of the Galaxy Note5 or Galaxy S6 edge+ at the roadshows will come with a free 11,300mAh battery pack and a wireless charger worth RM538… while stocks last.

Another good news is that Samsung will run an exclusive trade-up campaign starting from tomorrow (4 September 2015) where you can trade your old smartphones for a discount on the Samsung Galaxy Note5. The discount depends on the assessment at the retail store, but can be valued up to RM1,150.
