You may have seen our coverage of the supposed leak of the Redmi Note 8 by non-other than Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing.
We covered that Lu was already using the phone to post on Weibo, while rumours elsewhere suggest that the device could sport a 64MP camera.
After passing through certification of China’s TENAA, we have more concrete evidence now of its existence in the form of hands on images as well as a surprise appearance by the Pro variant of the Note 8.
As we already know, the Redmi Note 8 is expected to come with a 6.2-inch display with a waterdrop notch – the leaked images confirm that. But what’s interesting are the back camera placements – it is uncomfortably similar to that of the OPPO Reno and OPPO R17 – the placement of the modules looks out of place, while the black plastic housing doesn’t help either. The phone looks to have a sizeable chin and a generally generic drop-notch design.
Meanwhile, in a more unorthodox smartphone leak, the supposed Redmi Note 8 Pro was spotted on the director’s screen while the phones were being modelled in an advertisement video shoot. What sets it apart from its smaller sibling is that it looks to have three lenses as opposed to the just two. Like the regular Note 8, it’ll have a back-mounted fingerprint sensor as well. Plus it seems like the Note 8 series is really taking design ques from the OPPO Reno – the Note 8 Pro looks to sport a very familiar dark green colour, like that of the Reno.
Remember when we mentioned of a 64MP lens being present here, there’s a high possibility that it could be equipped onto the Pro variant only. Regardless, we found its predecessor, the Redmi Note 7 series phones to be exceptional performers in the budget and low-midrange segment – perhaps with the introduction of Android Q, the Redmi Note 8 series could impress as well.
