The Redmi K40 series will be announced this February 25 in its native China, and the Xiaomi sub-brand will be packing the phones with the best hardware available in the market.
Xiaomi VP Lu Weibing took to his Weibo profile to show off the announcement poster for the device, and he claims that there will be a new brand positioning in place coinciding with the launch. We reckon they’ll want to start hitting the premium market just like Xiaomi.
In terms of hardware, Lu also confirmed in an older Weibo posting that the series will pack the Snapdragon 888 chipset, a 4,000mAh battery, with a starting price of 2,999 Yuan (about RM1,886). Interestingly, he also says the series will come with one of the most expensive straight screen smartphones in the market – this could be in-line with what we think Redmi’s new direction will be.
Another report suggests that the Snapdragon 888 chipset will be going to the Redmi K40 Pro model only, while the regular model will sport the Snapdragon 870, which is basically a higher-clocked Snapdragon 865+ – meaning it’s still super powerful.

In the same report, we can see that both models sporting a massive 6.81-inch AMOLED 1440p+ panel. The display is apparently made with the same materials as the one on the Mi 11, so the K40 series could very well support 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ too.
For imaging, both phones come with a 108MP quad-camera setup and a 30MP selfie lens.
There’s no word on when it’s arriving to the country, but when it does, it could very well be re-badged under the POCO name, like the POCO F2, which is a re-brand of the Redmi K30 Pro.
