Razer launches Razer Phone 2 at the price of $799

Razer announced several new products today and one of it is the second flagship gaming smartphone, the Razer Phone 2.

The Razer Phone 2 has a 5.7-inch true 120Hz gaming display for smooth gaming experience with upgraded brightness of 580 nits that is 50% brighter as compared to the first Razer smartphone.

Though the design of the Razer Phone 2 is similar to its predecessor, the smartphone now has a glass back design which allows better antenna connectivity and supports wireless charging. The smartphone uses USB Type-C and the logo is now backlit and customisable as it is powered by Razer Chroma, meaning users can custom the colour of the logo based on notifications received. Despite current trends of flagship smartphones going for thinner bezels, Razer remained their thicker bezel design with no notch as it is more ergonomic for their target market, the gamers. The smartphone has dual front facing speakers, like its predecessor but with louder and clearer audio quality. At the moment, the smartphone is the only one to get HDR and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound from Netflix.

Razer Phone 2 also has Vapor Chamber cooling system which is found in Razer Blade laptops, and is IP67 water and dust resistant. It is powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC with Adreno 630 GPU and ships with 8GB RAM with 64GB storage, which Razer CEO, Min-Liang Tan said is 20% to 30% better than the original Razer Phone. The battery is similar to the first Razer Phone which is 4000mAh with optimisation and now supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, which can charge the phone from 1% to 50% in half an hour’s time.

Apart from that, the Razer Phone 2 also has upgraded cameras, where the rear camera has a 12MP wide angle lens with OIS and a 12MP telephoto lens. The front camera has 8MP sensor with HD video streaming and the camera now has three modes; portrait mode, panorama mode and beauty. When compared to Razer Phone, Razer Phone 2 has better performance in terms of details and colours, especially in low-light situations. Razer Cortex is now available in the smartphone, a system booster that can optimise games for faster loading and better performance.

The Razer Phone 2 comes in 2 versions, one mirror version and one satin version that has a matte finish. The smartphone costs $799 and is available for preorders on 11 October on 12:01AM. Currently, only the mirror version is available as the satin version will come later this year.

On the other hand, Razer also announced the 3rd generation Razer Hammerhead headsets with dual driver technology and a base model of the Razer Blade 15 that features an Ethernet port with an exclusive White Mercury color variant.
