Samsung used to release compact versions of its flagships years ago, but that ended with the Galaxy S5 Mini. Mini versions of Samsung’s flagship smartphones isn’t at all that bad, though it always came with a couple of compromises with a significantly lower price tag. The Galaxy S8 is now rumored to have a smaller variant too, according to Chinese tech news outlet IT Home.
Bear in mind to take this particular rumor with a huge grain of salt. Samsung did not launch compact variants of the Galaxy S6 and S7 respectively, so the chances of Samsung reviving the Mini model of its S series aren’t that much high as before. However, anything is still possible after a two year hiatus.
IT Home claims the Galaxy S8 mini to sport a significantly smaller 4.7-inch display, with the same bezel-less design. It is tipped to pack 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, but not the Snapdragon 835 processor, replaced with a Snapdragon 821 instead. As far as camera goes, the specs will remain the same – the 12MP rear facing shooter.
Regardless, based on the size ratio of the Galaxy S8 mini to the regular S8 in the image by IT Home, the former rumored handset should surpass the 5-inch mark in terms of its display. Let’s keep our eyes peeled on whether or not this will come to life.
